Tell us about health care distributors and their role in the supply chain.

The Healthcare Distribution Alliance, or HDA, represents pharmaceutical distributors who connect more than 1,200 manufacturers with 330,000 pharmacies, hospitals and other sites of care, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of 10 million medicines and health care products each day. As the logistics experts of health care, distributors are responsible for the physical handling, safety and security of medicine and health care products. Our work saves the health care system up to $63 billion annually.

What role do distributors play in improving health outcomes in New York and across the country?

Distributors are united in a common purpose – delivering medicines, health care products, and ultimately, health – to communities throughout New York and across the country. We make sure that the medicines and health care products patients need get there no matter the circumstances. Our focus on logistics means that pharmacists and providers can spend their time on what matters most – patients.

What policy issues are you focused on in 2025?

In 2025, HDA remains dedicated to advocating for policies that ensure patients have access to medicines and medical products through a safe, efficient and resilient distribution system. In New York, we are collaborating with elected officials to ensure the health care distribution industry is accurately represented when addressing critical issues related to the health care supply chain. Additionally, we are committed to supporting the state’s pharmacies and ensuring they have the resources and support needed to thrive in an evolving health care landscape.
