What is the state of hospitality and tourism in New York?
Fortunately, New York’s tourists have returned in force, bringing economic and social vibrancy to our streets and green spaces and allowing New York to retain its title as the most-visited city in the U.S. Our public safety, office occupancy and accommodation challenges are widely publicized, and the number of foreign tourists remains a bit low. However, spending is up, restaurants are resurgent and exciting, and hotels are often at capacity. Overall, the data suggests there is room for additional growth, with many reasons for optimism.
What role do you play in promoting tourism in New York?
As the city continues its post-pandemic recovery, it must ensure that visitors continue to enjoy our incomparable attractions and support our local economy. Support for arts and culture, public safety, transit and responsible growth is paramount. Our work is dedicated to ensuring that New York’s iconic businesses and institutions can thrive in the post-pandemic city – from supporting local businesses to empowering parks advocates to garnering support for the critical new medical, educational and cultural facilities that draw millions of people each year.
What policy issues are you focused on in 2024?
With our clients, we are committed to fostering real improvements in the public realm to ensure a safe, livable, and dynamic city. The focus of our work with higher education and workforce development organizations is ensuring that innovation and opportunity are the hallmarks of New York’s workplaces. We also work closely with trade associations and large companies to revisit antiquated laws and regulations that reduce New York’s competitiveness and stifle its creative and innovative sectors. All of these issues contribute to maintaining the vibrancy that supports New York’s unique tourism industry.
