This year’s Assembly elections will see Democrats attempt to hold on to their supermajority in the “people’s chamber” as Republicans attempt to chip away at their advantage. It will also be the first year using the latest Assembly district maps. Candidates will hope to remain visible between the presidential race and the Equal Rights Amendment, since who is sent to Albany in 2025 will also be very important.
For Democrats, there is hope that the boost from Gov. Kathy Hochul’s oft-discussed coordinated campaign will aid their chances across the state while Republicans hope that the Equal Rights Amendment ends up as a turnout boost for the GOP rather than the Democrats.
