In addition to races for Congress and the state Legislature, there are also several competitive primaries for countywide district attorney offices in New York. Westchester County District Attorney Mimi Rocah decided not to run for reelection, opening up her seat to two Democratic candidates: Susan Cacace and William Wagstaff. Rocah endorsed Cacace, a former County Court judge in Westchester, and Wagstaff, a civil rights attorney, is now being supported by former candidate in the race Adeel Mirza. In Albany, District Attorney David Soares, who has been in hot water over taking bonus payments using state grant money (which he has since returned), is facing a tough challenge from attorney Lee Kindlon, who was endorsed by the Times Union Editorial Board.
And in Orleans County, two Republican candidates are vying to be on the November ballot to replace longtime District Attorney Joseph Cardone.
