2024 New York congressional primary election results

From Central New York to the tip of Long Island, Democratic and Republican voters have cast their ballots to decide who will represent their parties in the November general election. The blockbuster victory of the night was Westchester County Executive George Latimer’s win over Rep. Jamaal Bowman in the Democratic primary, which has broader repercussions for progressives in New York and beyond.

Out on Long Island, former CNN pundit John Avlon soundly defeated former chemist Nancy Goroff and will face Republican Rep. Nick LaLota in November. In New York City, national progressive force Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez defeated a long shot Democratic primary challenge from investment banker Marty Dolan.

Further upstate, Democratic state Sen. John Mannion defeated Dewitt Councilor Sarah Klee Hood in Central New York, and he will now get a crack at one of the more flippable red seats in New York. Republicans are getting in on the fun too, with Rep. Claudia Tenney defeating attorney Mario Fratto in a firmly Republican Lake Ontario area district.

Long Island’s eastern portion, including most of Suffolk County 

Incumbent: Republican Rep. Nick LaLota

John Avlon: 69.79%

Nancy Goroff: 29.54%

Parts of the East Bronx including Hunts Point, Co-Op City, Throggs Neck and Parkchester, and parts of Queens including Astoria, East Elmhurst and part of Jackson Heights 

Incumbent: Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: 80.36%

Marty Dolan: 17.48%

16th District, Democratic Party

Hudson Valley, including Westchester County and Co-Op City in the Bronx

Incumbent: Democratic Rep. Jamaal Bowman

George Latimer: 58.11%

Jamaal Bowman: 41.32%

Finger Lakes region, Madison and Onondaga counties including Syracuse, parts of Cayuga and Oneida counties including Utica
