These two New York reps have already endorsed Trump for 2024

Though it might feel far off, the impending 2024 presidential election is on its way, with three Democratic candidates and 13 Republican candidates already confirmed to be running.

While it is still early, some endorsements have already come in for candidates on both sides of the aisle. New York’s Republican delegation in the U.S. House of Representatives, however, have not all rushed to make endorsements.

Only two Republican Congress members from New York have endorsed anyone: Long Island’s George Santos and North Country’s Elise Stefanik, who both endorsed former President Donald Trump. Santos’ office said it’s unable to comment on campaign matters, while Stefanik’s office did not respond to requests for comment. He endorsed on May 7, while she endorsed all the way back on Nov. 7, 2022.

City & State reached out to the full New York Republican delegation to ask if anyone else would be publicly endorsing soon. 

Aside from Santos’ spokesperson, only the office of Rep. Nicole Malliotakis responded.

“The Congresswoman has not yet made an official endorsement,” Malliotakis’ spokesperson Natalie Baldassarre said in an emailed statement.

With the Republican primary not coming until April 30, 2024, there’s still plenty of time for endorsements to come in. Republican strategist William O’Reilly told City & State that he doesn’t expect to see many more endorsements for a while.

“There’s no benefit whatsoever to endorsing Donald Trump early, and I would expect most Republican members from New York to keep their powder dry as long as humanly possible,” he said in an emailed statement. “Trump is without doubt the prohibitive favorite in the primary as of today, but there’s an awful lot of time between now and then. I’d expect most endorsements to come just days or weeks before the New York presidential primary next year.”
