State Sen. Gustavo Rivera has picked up his first endorsements from fellow elected officials in his bid to win the newly redrawn 33rd Senate District in the Bronx. State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins as well as Deputy Majority Leader Michael Gianaris announced support for Rivera. He can also count on the backing of state Sens. Jessica Ramos, Liz Krueger, Leroy Comrie, Robert Jackson, Julia Salazar, Pete Harckham and Jabari Brisport. Those endorsements include Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan, and up in Westchester in his race against Bronx Democratic Party’s choice Miguelina Camilo, who has boasted support from local electeds so far, including Rep. Ritchie Torres and Assembly Member Jeffrey Dinowitz. But for his part, Rivera is announcing the backing of Assembly Member Chantel Jackson and New York City Council Member Althea Stevens, who both represent nearby or overlapping districts in the Bronx. The new endorsements for Rivera came after he secured the support of several powerful unions including 1199SEIU and the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, while Camilo earned the support of the New York City District Council of Carpenters.
