To mark Earth Day, politicians have been talking about how to protect the environment – and in some cases, they’ve been passing legislation aimed at doing just that.
In recent weeks, the state Legislature approved a ban on plastic bags, while the New York City Council passed a legislative package that includes a new 5-cent charge on paper bags as well as another law requiring mid-sized and large buildings to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Meanwhile, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is aiming to “ban inefficient all-glass buildings that waste energy and reduce vehicle emissions.”
