Among the most contentious battlegrounds of the 2018 elections in New York were three congressional districts in Central New York. All three – the 19th, 22nd and 24th congressional districts – were among Democrats’ top targets as part of an effort to take back the U.S. House of Representatives. While the districts resemble each other demographically, the results were not the same on election night.
In the 19th Congressional District, Democratic challenger Antonio Delgado defeated incumbent Rep. John Faso. In the 22nd, Democratic Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi ousted conservative firebrand Rep. Claudia Tenney. But in the 24th, Republican Rep. John Katko fended off a spirited challenge from Democrat Dana Balter.
