Bronx Borough President Rubén Díaz Jr. has opened a 2021 campaign account, an early concrete move in his expected run for New York City mayor.
While the NYC Diaz account registered with the state Board of Elections on Wednesday doesn’t specify the office he’s raising money for, Diaz has been open about his interest in running for mayor.
Several other potential 2021 mayoral candidates – New York City Public Advocate Letitia James, New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer and Queens Borough President Melinda Katz – have also opened 2021 campaign accounts in the past few months. They also declined to officially declare the office for which they would run.
