Stewart-Cousins scores most votes to be Clinton delegate

Not only did state Senate Democratic Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins get one step closer to holding a majority in the state Senate after Tuesday’s primary, she also received the most votes in her congressional district to become a delegate for presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

New York’s presidential primary doesn’t normally reach the national spotlight, but Bernie Sanders’ competitive campaign gave Tuesday’s election a rare level of attention – though Clinton ultimately won the state handily.

Stewart-Cousins has been a prominent Clinton supporter and met with her, along with other Democratic state lawmakers, earlier this month.

“She is primed to be president and just take her over the top in a really big way and keep it moving so she gets to win in November,” Stewart-Cousins told State of Politics after the meeting.
