New York, NY, September 4, 2014 - This Saturday and Sunday, PIX11 News and City & State will co-sponsor a debate between gubernatorial challengers Republican Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino and Democratic Fordham Law Professor Zyphyr Teachout, who is challenging current Governor Andrew Cuomo in this Tuesday’s September 9th primary. An invitation was extended to Governor Cuomo to join in the debate but was not acknowledged.
The debate will be moderated by PIX11 “News Closeup” host Marvin Scott and feature esteemed panelists Jonathan Lentz, Albany Bureau Chief for City & State magazine, and Christina Greer, Professor of Political Science at Fordham University.
Co-sponsored by PIX11, the flagship station of Tribune Broadcasting, and City & State, the only media company devoted solely to covering government and politics in New York, the debate will air Saturday at 10:30PM and be rebroadcasted Sunday at 6AM as part of PIX11’s weekly "PIX11 News Closeup" series. The debate will also be posted to www.pix11.com.
PIX11 Senior Correspondent Marvin Scott says, “It is important to air the issues so voters can be well informed before they make their decision. It is most unfortunate that Governor Cuomo is not participating.”
City & State Publisher Andrew Holt says, “City & State is thrilled to continue our ongoing partnership with PIX11 by hosting the only on-camera debate of the gubernatorial season thus far. We are committed to providing the public with a thorough understanding of issues important to New York City and New York State, and providing a debate platform for two of our gubernatorial candidates helps voters make an informed decision.”
