Gov. Andrew Cuomo's campaign has filled out and returned a questionnaire to the National Organization for Women's New York Chapter seeking the organization's endorsement.
The submission comes just days after a City & State TV interview with the organization's president, Zenaida Mendez, in which she said the organization was considering backing Cuomo's Democratic primary opponent, Zephyr Teachout.
In the interview with City & State contributor Gerson Borrero, Mendez also said she had not yet been contacted by the Cuomo administration to discuss the NOW-NYS endorsement. Mendez said just hours after the City & State TV interview was posted on Monday morning, the campaign reached out.
"We had the questionnaire and had been working on it when the interview was first posted," a spokesperson for the Cuomo campaign said in a statement. "The questionnaire was officially submitted to NOW this past Monday, August 18."
