I’m excited to announce that I’m launching a podcast with my long-time friend, President and CEO of Tech:NYC, Julie Samuels.
“How’d they do it: Tech in the cities” will feature interviews with groundbreakers at the intersection of technology and government on a biweekly schedule. Julie and I will spend the bulk of the season talking with people from around the country who have either successfully enacted innovative legislation in this space or have put forth revolutionary ideas.
As technology rapidly evolves, and the sector rapidly grows and changes our economy, what does that mean for state and local governments? We intend to dig in and ask the hard questions: Could artificial intelligence become a problem? How do we solve the data privacy issue so many parents are concerned about? There are so many ways to talk about these issues, but the biggest mistake would be not to talk about them at all. The disruption is already happening. You can’t put the cat back in the bag, and government needs to get ahead of it.
This podcast will not be an echo chamber. Listeners can expect some of the smartest minds from different backgrounds having a productive debate, with the goal of informing our audience on real solutions that can impact policy. I’m looking forward to sharing what we’ve got in store.
And a huge thank you to our sponsors and early supporters: Uber, Spectrum, Civic Hall, TikTok, Google and SnapChat. For more information about sponsorship opportunities, please contact Tom Allon at tallon@cityandstateny.com.
