You would think with all the work New York City leaders have to do, they wouldn’t have time to train for a marathon. But lo and behold, there is more than one official training for the 26.2-mile trek. The annual New York City Marathon will take place on Nov. 3 and is set to start at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island and finish in Central Park. Here are a few public officials who are planning to run in the New York City Marathon.

Maria Torres-Springer

New York City Mayor Eric Adams said in a press conference that First Deputy Mayor Maria Torres-Springer will run in the marathon. In June 2023, she was running with Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Anne Williams-Isom, Deputy Mayor for Operations Meera Joshi and then-First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright.

Anne Williams-Isom

Anne Williams-Isom has said she plans to run in the marathon on Nov. 3. She ran her first marathon in 2000 in honor of her late father and has run the marathon three additional times since then. Maybe race watchers will see her with Torres-Springer and others from the administration?

Fabien Levy

Deputy Mayor for Communications Fabien Levy also plans to run in the marathon. In a recent press conference, Adams looked over to Levy and said he looked “trimmed down” and was “doing his run.”

Chi Ossé

New York City Council Member Chi Ossé has been training for the marathon. In a phone interview, he said running “has always been very therapeutic” for him and helps him clear his mind. He also said marathon training is a great opportunity to connect with constituents and represent the city. Ossé has been training since July and, despite experiencing a tennis injury during his training, he is ready to run his first marathon.
