These infamous brothers created headaches for their siblings in power

James Caban and Terence Banks are just the latest relatives to cause problems for their better-known brothers.

You can’t choose your family, but you can decide whether or not to employ them. The relatives of some of New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ inner circle are adding fuel to the fire of a sprawling federal corruption investigation, with both the Caban and Banks clans reportedly drawing the interest of federal prosecutors. But they aren’t alone. In politics, sometimes the biggest headache isn’t an investigator or a reporter, but the guy sitting across from you at Thanksgiving.

Chris Cuomo (brother to Andrew Cuomo)

Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo didn’t need much help courting scandal in 2021, between allegations of sexual misconduct and concerns over the state’s COVID-19 response under his watch. But his brother didn’t help things. Chris Cuomo was fired from CNN for coaching the governor through the end of his administration and then had his own sexual harassment allegation.

Terence Banks (brother to David Banks and Phil Banks)

New York City schools Chancellor David Banks and New York City Deputy Mayor Phil Banks were drawn into the cloud of corruption dogging the Adams administration earlier this month when federal authorities raided their homes and confiscated their electronics – reportedly as part of an investigation into their little brother Terence Banks.

James Caban (brother to Edward Caban)

New York City Police Department Commissioner Eddie Caban just resigned with his twin brother James Caban in the FBI’s crosshairs. James Caban was reportedly peddling influence as a consultant for city nightclubs hoping to smooth relations with law enforcement.

Billy Carter (brother to Jimmy Carter)

Former President Jimmy Carter’s younger brother Billy Carter did the unthinkable during the Georgia Democrat’s lone term, going from beer poster boy to suspected Libyan spy. To Jimmy Carter’s embarrassment, Billy Carter registered as a foreign agent of Libya due to his sympathies for the North African country, then under rule by dictator Moammar Gadhafi, and accepted $220,000 from their government.

Roger Clinton Jr. (brother to Bill Clinton)

Former President Bill Clinton had his own run-ins with the law, but he had one consistent “headache” – his half-brother Roger Clinton Jr., who earned that Secret Service nickname for the numerous problems he caused the president. Whether it was DUIs, ties to the Gambino organized crime family or drug charges, Roger Clinton had a hard time staying out of trouble.

Jim Biden (brother to Joe Biden)

For President Joe Biden, family has been a recurring issue. While Republicans have gone after his son Hunter Biden, his brother James Biden has had to answer for nearly $300,000 in interest-free loans that he received from his brother. On top of that, James reportedly had business deals with the Qatari government in what was the closest link between a Biden relative and a foreign power.

Donald Nixon (brother to Richard Nixon)

Former President Richard Nixon’s brother Donald Nixon and his flagging business career were a regular concern for “Tricky Dick.” Magnate Howard Hughes gave Donald Nixon a $200,000 loan to bail him out of a failed restaurant in California, which Donald Nixon never paid back – something his more famous brother had to answer for on the campaign trail.
