Update: This contest has been extended for 24 hours, with a new deadline of 5 p.m. Eastern on Friday, Aug. 23.

In May, City & State posed a question: When would the two New York Democratic elected officials running for president – U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio – exit the race? In that online poll, most voters predicted de Blasio would be out by the end of 2019. Respondents were slightly more optimistic about Gillibrand, with some guessing she wouldn’t call it quits until next March. (However, not a single voter thought either politician would ultimately become the party’s nominee.)

Now, we want to get a little more specific: When exactly will de Blasio and Gillibrand drop out? To enter our contest, send an email to editor@cityandstateny.com with your predictions of the exact dates that the two candidates will officially end or suspend their campaigns.

The email should say “City & State contest” in the subject line, and should include your full name and hometown or home borough. Submissions will be accepted through Friday, Aug. 23, at 5 p.m. Eastern. Submissions will be limited to one per person. (City & State employees cannot participate, nor can the candidates, their campaign teams or their family members.)

Once each candidate exits the race, we’ll publicize the name of the person whose prediction came the closest, regardless of whether it’s before or after the actual date. In the event of a tie, the person who submitted first will be the winner. The two winners will each receive a $50 Visa gift card.
