The Future of New York Industry
During the pandemic New Yorker's lost thousands of jobs and we've been working ever since to recover. Much of New York’s ongoing economic recovery has been concentrated in health care, life sciences, and the growing tech industry, sectors that were strengthening prior to the pandemic. How has AI in the workplace transformed business? How will global networks allow for New York companies to export their products and services globally? How will the energy, cannabis and the energy sectors play a role? What are other areas where we can look to see job creation, economic development and how can we work together to help create new industries?

The State of New York State Workforce Development
Without the workforce to fill the open current and future jobs, our investments in economic growth will stop. The pandemic taught us that work is no longer commuting into the office for 8 hour days 5 days a week. This also means that we have lost social and collaborative elements along the way. Some offices have returned; some have set up a hybrid situation while others will remain at home. What does the Future of Work look like in New York? What is the current state of workforce development in New York State and what role do requirements within diversity and inclusion play?
- John Celock, Special Projects Editor, City & State NY (Moderator)
- Vilda Vera Mayuga, Commissioner, New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection
- Chris White, Deputy Commissioner for Workforce Development, New York State Department of Labor
- Dawn Pinnock, Commissioner, New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services

The Power of Diversity in Shaping Policies
The presence of more women and people of color in positions of power in our workforce and economy undoubtedly leads to policies that advance everyone. Look no further than the steps of Congress, the halls of the Capitol, or the Chambers of City Hall to find diverse champions who ensured major advances towards pay equity, enshrined reproductive healthcare rights in our state constitution, enacted paid sick leave, and lowered the barriers to affordable childcare, to name a few. Join us for the chance to hear from these decision-makers and discuss how messaging is key to convincing people in power that when all parts of the economy are able to fully participate, we all win.
- Lauren Bush, Chief Operating Officer, The Parkside Group (Moderator)
- Saima Anjam, Senior Vice President, The Parkside Group
- Joshua Joseph, Executive Director, BPHA Caucus
- Carmen De La Rosa, New York City Council Member, District 10

Growing Businesses and an Innovation Economy in NY
Small businesses kept us going through the pandemic, and they are leading the way during our economic recovery. In early 2023, the State launched over $500M State Small Business Credit Initiative while the city announced the creation of the $75 million NYC Small Business Opportunity Fund, the largest public-private loan fund directed at small businesses in the city’s history. New York State offers many resources designed to enable new and existing businesses to become more competitive through its MWBE programs, innovative technologies and currencies, special grants, and more. New York companies also offer apprenticeships, internships, and special programs to advance. What are the tools and opportunities which give New Yorker's steppingstone to lucrative careers and the ability to be entrepreneurs, innovators, and collaborators?
- Zack Fink, Director of External Affairs, Government Relations Practice, Davidoff Hutcher and Citron LLP (Moderator)
- Elizabeth "Liz" Lusskin, Executive Vice President of Small Business and Technology Development, Empire State Development
- Kevin D. Kim, Commissioner, New York City Small Business Services

Maximizing Economic Impact to Best Serve NY’s Communities
In May 2023, Governor Hochul announced the Restore New York Communities Initiative supporting municipal revitalization efforts across the state, helping to remove blight, reinvigorate downtowns and generate economic opportunity in communities statewide. We discuss initiatives and programs which help local governments revitalize their communities by encouraging investment, technology, add properties to the tax roll, and increase the local tax base. What is the impact of programs like this and what are new and old ideas that can and are helping New York’s communities?
