Too many low- and moderate-income older New Yorkers are missing out on benefits they qualify for because of a lack of coordination among state agencies administering various benefits programs, lack of awareness of programs, complicated, confusing & technologically challenging application processes, and stigma. As a result, many New Yorkers are struggling needlessly, and the State is missing out on billions of dollars in federal aid – money that could help New Yorkers improve their lives and stimulate local economies when that money is spent. The State should help qualifying New Yorkers enroll for benefits they may miss out on.
