New York’s long-term care system faced many challenges pre-COVID, and the pandemic has exacerbated the critical need for reform. The State has made progress, but there’s much more to be done. During this City & State New York legislative forum sponsored by AARP New York, we will delve into key subjects including how lawmakers can strengthen nursing home oversight, including bolstering the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program and ensuring a strong healthcare and homecare workforce to serve older New Yorkers. We will also discuss ways to support unpaid family caregivers – who play a vital role in New York’s long-term care system – and the loved ones for whom they care, such as a caregiver tax credit and ensuring availability of home-and community-based services that allow New Yorkers to remain in their own homes.
